Cheap car rental in Santiago

Goldcar offers budget car rentals directly from Santiago de Compostela Airport. Booking in advance gives you access to a wider vehicle selection and helps keep pickup quick and simple. Once your reservation is confirmed, all you need is your paperwork to collect the keys and get started.
At this location, Goldcar provides several types of vehicles to suit different trip needs. Compact cars are practical for city driving or short routes. Wagons and SUVs offer extra space for passengers or luggage. Some models come with automatic transmission. Depending on availability, you may also find hybrid or electric vehicles at certain times of year.
When you reserve online, the full rental cost is shown upfront. You won’t face surprise charges at the counter. To pick up the car, bring your driver’s license, a passport or other government ID, and a payment card under the lead driver’s name. Staff will check your details and hand over the keys once everything is confirmed.

Where to pick up your car in Santiago

Goldcar has a rental counter inside Santiago Airport. After you collect your bags, follow the car rental signs. The desk team will confirm your booking and point you to the nearby car lot. There’s no shuttle needed—the vehicles are parked within walking distance of the terminal.
Returning your vehicle is just as simple. Look for signs that direct you to the rental return area. A staff member will inspect the vehicle and take back the keys. From there, you can head into the terminal for your flight.
Some Goldcar rentals can also be picked up from Santiago city center. This is a convenient option for travelers arriving by train or staying locally. Make sure to check your reservation to confirm the exact pickup location. The same applies to drop-off points—if you're planning to return the vehicle elsewhere, make sure it's listed on your booking.
Goldcar allows one-way rentals, which must be arranged ahead of time. You may return the vehicle to a different city or branch if it’s available. A one-way fee might apply depending on distance and location, and it’s always shown before booking.

Explore Santiago and Galicia by car

Driving is often the most reliable way to explore Galicia. Public transport is limited outside major towns, and rural areas are better accessed by car. Renting allows you to plan your travel around your own schedule, not fixed routes or departure times.
In Santiago, main points of interest include the cathedral, historic downtown, and a number of small museums. Be aware that some areas in the city center are restricted to traffic. Public garages and marked street parking are available nearby. Parking is easier outside the center and often free of charge.
Popular destinations you can reach by car from Santiago include:
  • A Coruña – A beach city with museums, seafood restaurants, and the Roman-era Tower of Hercules. About an hour’s drive.
  • Pontevedra – A walkable town with open plazas, markets, and riverside views.
  • Rías Baixas – Known for beaches, wine, and coastal towns. Best explored by car.
  • Lugo – Home to preserved Roman walls and a small, historic downtown.
  • Costa da Morte – Wild coastline, scenic drives, and ocean views on less crowded roads.
Roads throughout Galicia are in good condition. Highways are smooth and easy to navigate. Local roads may be narrower but are well kept. Most routes around Santiago are toll-free, but if you travel farther east or south, you may come across toll roads marked with “AP.” Fuel stations are common and accept all standard payment cards. If heading into remote areas, it's wise to fill the tank ahead of time.
Driving behavior outside urban areas is calm. Roundabouts are frequent. Speed limits are in kilometers per hour and vary depending on the road type. GPS and map apps work well, but having a printed map on hand can help in rural areas with limited signal.
