Goldcar is one of Spain's leading car hire companies and the largest dedicated to the tourist sector.

The company, with over 25 years of experience, now has 28 offices located in the airports and main tourist destinations of the Iberian Peninsula, the Balearic and Canary Islands.

Goldcar owns a fleet of more than 20,000 vehicles and renews more than 70% of the fleet each year. This, combined with its highly qualified staff, allows Goldcar to attend annually to more than 1.5 million customers from all over the world with the quickest car pick-up and return system in the market.

History

Goldcar Rental, the new trade name of Europa Rent a Car, was founded in 1985 with the aim to create a car hire company specialized in the tourist market.

• 1985 The brothers Juan and Pedro Alcaraz began their activity hiring vehicles from their first office in San Juan de Alicante next to carretera de Valencia with four Ford Fiestas and one Ford Escort.
• 1987 The company opened a second car hire office in Torrevieja (Alicante).
• 1988 On 24 August, they incorporated their activity as a company, with the trade name of Europa Rent a Car, s.l.
• 1989 The company's third car hire office was opened in Benidorm (Alicante).
• 1994 The facilities at Torrevieja (Alicante) were renovated.
• 1995 A new car hire office at Valencia Airport was opened.
• 1997 In Benidorm (Alicante), the office was moved to larger premises. The first permit was obtained to operate a car hire service in Alicante Airport.
• 1999 The car hire office at Denia (Alicante) was opened and the company began to grow rapidly, creating new departments that required a new central office in the town of San Juan.
• 2000 A concession was purchased for car hire services at Málaga Airport. The car hire office at Aguilas (Murcia) was opened.
• 2001 The expansion process continued with the opening of a new car hire office at Murcia Airport.
• 2002 Opening of car hire offices at the airports of Jerez, Palma de Mallorca and Almería.
• 2006 The car hire offices in Girona and Granada were opened. This year also saw the beginning of the change to the new brand name: Goldcar.
• 2007 The new Goldcar project for this year was the opening of new, more modern and better equipped facilities for the central office in the town of San Juan.
• 2008 Opening of car hire offices in the Canary Islands: Las Palmas and Tenerife.
• 2009 Opening of car hire offices in the Canary Islands: Lanzarote airport.
• 2010 Celebration of the 25th anniversary of the founding of Goldcar.
• 2011 Development of our new webpage with the most advanced reservations system in the market. Opening of car hire offices at the airports of Barcelona, Ibiza, Menorca, Faro (Portugal) and Bilbao.
