Getting to this new location is not difficult, it is in the same arrivals terminal, through exit ‘E’ and to the right.

The new location is temporary while the renovation is being carried out and we expect that the Goldcar office at Mallorca Airport will relocate again within a few weeks, this time to larger facilities, where we can improve the quality of the service we provide to all our customers.

The measure has not only affected the Goldcar office at Mallorca Airport, all other rent a car offices that operate at the airport have also been moved.

Please note that this number should only be used by our customers who rent a car from the Goldcar office in Faro, or any other office Goldcar may have in Portugal in the future.

If you rent a car in any of the Goldcar offices in Spain the Road Assistance number is still 902 10 52 76. You need to add +34 if calling from outside Spain.

There is also a new number to contact our reservations services in Portugal: 707 50 40 70. In Spain there is no change and you can still contact us calling 902 119 726 (+34 965 943 186 if calling from outside Spain).

Some motorways that were previously free have lost that feature as the government has started to charge for their use. These motorways will only have overhead gantry systems, (as shown in the photograph) and they will not have toll booths or machines where you can pay as you go.

Starting in November 2011 the A22 (Algarve), A23 (Torres Novas-Guarda), A24 (Viseu-Chaves) and A25 (Vilar Formoso-Aveiro) will not be free any more.

PAYMENT ALTERNATIVES

There are essentially 2 options to pay for the use of theses motorways: electronic and manual.

1. Electronic payment

If you have a DE, (Electronic Device for payment,) then you can pay electronically by loading an amount on to it or you can be debited automatically from your bank account.

You can lease a Temporary Device (TD) from CTT/post offices or motorway service stations. The price for the leasing is proportional to the leasing period, around €6 for the 1st week and an extra €1,50 for following weeks (+VAT). A 27€ deposit is also payable. (Please note these prices may have changed since this document was created). The deposit is re-fundable on return of the device but any remaining credit will not be refunded.

When leasing the device, you can choose between two methods of payment for toll charges:

- Direct payment: debit from a multibanco or credit card for the tolls charges used;
- Pre-payment: preloading a minimum of 10 Euros, please note that in this case, the preloaded and unused balance is non-refundable.

2. Manual payment

If you do not have an Electronic Device for automatic payment then you should go to a ‘PayShop’ or CTT (post office) within 5 days of using the motorway -but not on the same day of use- with your vehicle registration number and pay the tolls for the motorways you’ve used in previous days. An administration fee will also be added to the amount due. If it is not paid within 5 days then fines will also be added.

FINES

If you do not have an Electronic Device or do not manually pay the due charges then you will be fined. Photos are taken of registration plates and bills and fines will be sent to your registered home address in your country of origin.

Not everything in Goldcar has to be because a serious thing. We love humor, and the picture above is a little silly. For cavallino rampant and chocolate addicts this will make you salivate.

Apparently, the Pasticceri Italiani Club has used two tons of Belgian chocolate to produce are size model of the F2008.

As explained by Luigi Liberti, president of the FerrariNapoli Club  team, “it will be displayed until the end of the festival and then broken down with hammers and given to the attendees so they could take it home.”

The car, which is on display now in Sorrento, required that manufacturers to start melting the chocolate last year. It is coated with a layer sweetened bright red top layer totally edible and the wheels, seat and some accessories are pure solid chocolate. Delicious!

The Spaniard race car driver Fernando Alonso has just presented a  few recommendations to improve road safety, in an initiative promoted by Cajastur.

Here is a list of steps to follow according to Formula 1 world champion:

    1. Use belts on all seats
2. Wear your helmet and tighten it properly
3. Adjust your driving to the conditions of the track
4. Keep in mind the state of the car and take it in for maintenance before a trip
5. If you are tired or sleepy , stop for a while and rest                                                                                                                                                                                                                  6. Forget talking on the cellphone while driving
7. At the wheel, not a drop of alcohol
8. Always keep a safe distance with other vehicles
9. Respect speed limits
10. A reckless attitude can cost lives

Alonso also made statements regarding road safety: “If children see me succeed and we achieve no accidents until 2050 , I am satisfied.  A round of applause for the Spanish champion .

This beautiful picture is the latest prototype of the two-seater electric car, to be known as  ZAP Alias and that is being developed by the British firm Lotus.

One of the greatest curiosities of this vehicle is that it combines a sporty design with an ecological concept. What is most surprising is that the ZAP Alias runs on only three wheels.

 The most fascinating fact of all, is its possible final price, which amounts to 15,000 pounds (about 20,000 euros).

The ZAP Alias can reach a maximum speed of 241 kilometers per hour and its acceleration is spectacular, from 0 to 96 miles per hour at 5’7 seconds. Why is it so fast? Because it is equipped with two electric motors that supply power to both front wheels reaching 322 PS.

The advantage of electric motors for the environment are fascinating because they are absolutely ecological and do not produce gas emissions to the atmosphere.

The ZAP Alias will go on sale starting next year, but it is more than likely that the final sale date be delayed considerably.

The recognition of foreign national drivers licences to those wishing to drive in Spain may be changed soon, specifically in the month of March.

The aim of the new legislation is to bring awareness among immigrants drivers to the Spanish legislation.

Currently, immigrants who wish to obtain their driving licence must fill out an application form, submit a medical certificate, another of no previous criminal record or administrative and pay the applicable rate. But now it will not be so easy.

In this regard, there are some countries where driving is a simple administrative task for which fees are paid, without the need for screening, such as in  India.

Thus, the validation of the driver’s license for immigrants whose home countries comply with the above description will have to comply with the Spanish driving laws.

Impressive car don´t you think? Well, believe it or not, this awesome car was born in Valencia, Spain, direct from the GTA motor team.

The first super sports car manufactured in Spain will be called GTA concept and will cost around 600,000 euros. This super car will come equipped with a motor or more than 700 CV that will reach 340 km/h. In addition, the chasis is made from carbon fiber and titanium.

But, only 99 people will be lucky enough to buy this beauty due to the limited units that will be a available for purchase. Up to now only eight persons have reserved the GTA Concept, but in time the quota will be filled.
