Our friends over at Circula Seguro, have prepared a series of advise so that winter driving is a no brainier.
1. Every winter we should all make sure to take our car in for a check up, to make sure everything is in order. It is specially important to make sure that the tires are in good state and that the antifreeze levels are filled and that the windshield wipers and lights are working properly.
2. Snow chains are vital if you live or will be visiting snowy places. It is also important to have a ice scraper. It is also advisable to leave the windshield wipers lifted so that the weight of the snow does not break them.
3. If it is pouring down rain, we should avoid puddles due to the fact that you could cause the car to aquaplane and we could lose total control of the car. If this does happen we should avoid pressing on the break, we should just lift our foot from the accelerator and hold the steering wheel firmly. We should also keep in mind that the break distance in the rain increases significantly and we should maintain longer distance levels. Also breaks will not work as well when wet so be careful.
4. When fog is apparent you should always use the fog lights and keep a longer distance level, drive a little slower and maintain a constant concentration level so that there are no surprises.
5. If you encounter strong winds, you should show down, hold the steering Wheel firmly with both hands, it is recommendable you drive in high gears so that the force can help keep the car steady.
6. Don’t speed, keep a secure distance level, keep all windows clean and everything is the car in working order and you should be very safe this winter.
