fira-cocentaina.jpg

If you happen to be in the Alicante area this weekend I recommend a great outing to La Fira de Tots Sants de Cocentaina which will be celebrated between the 1st and 4th of November.

It is very easy; the town is less than an hour away from the airport, where you can rent a car from Goldcar.

You simply have to go from the airport north of the province and take the Alcoy exit, and once you get to Alcoy follow the N-30 until you get to Cocentaina.

This event is more than 650 years old and will exhibit products of more than 38,6 million euros.

The streets of Cocentaina will be converted in a great market in which you will be able to find almost everything in a 90,000 square meter exhibition hall.

Most of the exhibition hall, about 32,000 of the sq meters will be occupied by the agricultural machinery and autos.

The other ítems you will be able to see in this fain are diverse products such as; children attractions, medieval market, motorcycles, alternative energies, garden supplies and much more.

Don’t forget to taste all the local foods, which will delight you.

Video of the fastest battery operated car in the world

YouTube Preview Image

Last summer the Panasonic Oxyride Speed Challenge a competition where speed was tested to see which AA battery operated car would win, was celebrated. The winner needed a total of 192 batteries to successfully beat out the competition.

The winning car was able to reach 122 kph, which is a new Guinness record for this type of ingenious machines. The car weights 38 kilos and its dimensions are 330 x 78 x 56 centimetres. Inside, the driver is completely laid down with only his hands on the wheel.

The framework of the car was built with a special metallic alloy, a material similar to that used in the construction of a fireproof vest. A completely electronic car, very fast and that doesn’t use any gasoline, although you can’t recharge the batteries by plugging them directly to the motor by the use of a cable.
Overall, it would be a little uncomfortable to drive around as you can see in this short video.

Calculate the cost of a trip in your car

viaja-con-goldcar.jpg

I just read in Motorpasion a very interesting thought written by Daniel Seijo about how much a trip could cost us and how to evaluate it.

According to his post, the cost depends exclusively with the combustible we use in our getaway. We should analyze the fixed costs for things such as the tires, change of oil and filters, break pads.. and also the variable costs and unexpected costs.

Adding all these factors, Daniel comes to the conclusion that the cost of a trip depends on the following factors:

  • Combustible.
  • Fixed costs: tires, oil, scheduled maintenance…
  • Costs not measurable such as: electronics, combustible and the unexpected..
  • Possibility of accidents and flan tires…
  • Car amortization

Raikkonen wins the game on the road against McLaren

massa-raokkonen-alonso.jpg

We don’t usually talk about professional motor competitions in this blog, but yesterdays last Formula 1 Gran Prix deserves a mention.Half of Spain spent last Sunday afternoon with their heads glued to the television just to see how the bad gesture of Ron Dennis finished all his possibilities of success for his team.

In my opinion, Dennis’s refusal to shake hands with the 2006 world champion was key to the latest development of the final competition. Too many complications in just one season and on top of everything with bad gestures.

Ferrari, placed all their efforts on themselves. In the last season the Maranello team has been worthy of their spectacular victory and without making much noise.

Hamilton was a good driver with a good car, but his youth and inexperience dealt him some bad cards. In many times of the season he has thought he was superior to his rivals. His over confidence has paid a big price with one of the most embarrassing shows in the car racing history.

Alonso doesn’t have the sympathy of the mass public, but his quality as a driver in unquestionable. Now, there are open possibilities to the future, it seems all far from McLaren. He gave all he could in Brazil and during the season and at the end of the day I’m sure he is happy as all of Spain is.

Nevertheless, this has not been a normal championship; therefore, it could be that it doesn’t have a normal end. I just read in Marca, that McLaren still insists in living Hamilton the championship and will take it up with the courts.
