Know the car you drive

rentingacar.jpg

You have decided to rent a car, very good. Now, alter all the paperwork involved the next most important thing is getting to know your car. If you are used to driving a certain kind of car and you all of a sudden make a change you can find yourself a little lost. Where are the lights, the windshield wipers? What type of gas do I use?

These are only but a few of the questions that might come up when we rent a car. It is very important that before you leave your rental car office you ask as many questions as you need. Don’t be embarrassed to ask questions, it is better to be safe than sorry.

Lastly, ask if you could test different car types to see which one suits you better.

Driving Safe, your only option

We always think, it won’t happen to me. A car accident is something no one is ready for or prepared for its consequences. When we decide to take a long car trip and we have been driving for many hours we let our guard down which we should never do, and that is when the unexpected can happen.

Before leaving on a long car ride we need to first make sure our car is in perfect condition. That is why sometimes it is better to rent a car which we know will be in perfect condition for our long journey. The second thing we should keep in mind is out vital condition. Depending on how many hours we are going to be in the car we need to have a different plan. How many hours can you really sit behind the wheel? Are you tired? Like our car, we also need maintenance and we should make sure we are well rested and plan our trip with appropriate stops for rest.

With a little common sense and safety plans we could all be a little bit safer on the road this summer, and remember don’t speed, it doesn’t matter when you get there as long as you get there.

Paradors of Spain

paradoresdeespana.jpg

Paradors of Spain are more than a group of hotels. They are an experience of romance and passion with the history of this beautiful country. If you travel to these destinations you will feel a sense the magic of a culture that is mysterious and alive.

These paradors are not hotels, they are castles, monasteries, and they are homes with history. There are more than 90 paradors throughout Spain and each one has uniqueness to them. And don’t think that you wont receive the attention you require, almost all these hotels have been remodelled and are up to date, but not only that, they will give you a much more personal touch than a big hotel chain could ever give you.

If you are planning a trip this summer give the paradors a chance and start to feel the essence of Spain.

The Califato Route

rutadelcatifalifato.jpg

With so many different routes, Spain is one of the best places to take road trips where you can admire all the different hidden away places that you would miss if you travelled by train or airplane. One of those routes in the Califato route which takes you from Cordoba to Granada.

This route passes you through an Arabic period in Spain. The trip passes through the natural park of the Subbeticas de las Sierras and through little sleepy towns as well as mountaneous regions such as the Sierra of Moclin, Sierra Elvira and the Sierra of Huetor.

The best season to take on this route is spring or early summer. You can do this in 2 or 3 days or even longer if you wish to really dive into the beauty that will surround you.

Activities for children on a long road trip

roadtripwithkids.jpg

We just came back from a road trip with our 5 year old son and 3 year old daughter from Alicante to Asturias and thank heaves we were prepared because the more than 8 hours in the car were a lot of fun.

We researched with enough time road trip and we prepared ourselves accordingly so that our children would be able to enjoy the road trip without getting too frustrated or bored. The following are a couple of ideas that helped our trip be more enjoyable:

Food – very important, have plenty of water and drinks as well as lots of snacks in case hunger begins before its time for a scheduled stop.

Goodie bags – Give each child a bag with colouring books, crayons, cards and any other type of toys that will keep them entertained.

Surprises- Aside from the goodie bags you need to have another surprise bag for emergency purposes, such as when they Start to ask Are we there yet?”

Music- Have cd´s in hand of all their favourite music so your kids could sing long.

Games- if your children are at an age where portable electronic games are their thing make sure you have enough batteries that goes for portable DVD placer as well. And if all else fails you can always opt for the good old road trip games such as counting license plates, memory games or just sing along all together making up songs and having fun.

I hope these tips will help and that you have a fantastic trip

How do you like to travel?

rentalcar.jpg

When you think of your vacations and how to get to your destination do you have the car or train dilemma? Well, I like to have control, especially when children are involved. The train for me is very expensive, a little more uncomfortable, and you can only get off until you get to your final destination. On the other hand when you travel by car, especially if you rent one, you have control and the freedom to stop wherever you want.

You could enjoy all the sights and get to your destination at your own pace and you can take as much luggage as you want. I love to take road trips, it reminds me of my past when my entire family would get together and join in the travelling fun throughout the entire country.
